About The Hanson Family Singers

The Hanson Family Singers is comprised of Wayne and Leslie Hanson and their seven children, Tanya, Gina, Michael, Christa, Lisa, Theresa and Daniel. Music has always been an important part of their lives; Wayne and Leslie met while singing.

Through the many years of being in church choirs, the children heard four part harmony even before they were born. The interest grew into a dream come true; having their own family singing group. They are currently members of the St. Mary's choir, downtown Eugene.

Since 1985, the Hanson family has performed in the Eugene, Oregon area as well as many other places across the U.S. They live on a nine acre country place about twenty miles west of Eugene in the Elmira area.

Their first album, "Catholic Traditions", released in 1998, contains thirteen beautiful traditional hymns of the Church. This is a good representation of the a capella style typical of the Hansons.

Recently their talents were honored when the youngest members, Theresa (then 10) and Daniel (then 8), placed in the finals at the Oregon State Fair after winning the 2002 talent contest at the Lane County Fair with an exciting yodeling duet by the name of "The Man in the Moon."  This event and the Hanson's December Christmas caroling in Victorian costumes were topics of four nice articles in local newspapers and a national magazine.

In August, 2003, Christa, Lisa, Theresa and Daniel all placed in the finals at the county fair talent competition with Daniel winning first place and Lisa second in the fifteen and younger division. Daniel (then 9) went on with his rousing song, "Cowboy Yodel", to place second in the state competition.

In "Discovering the Stars" singing contest, in Salem OR , August 2003, Theresa and Daniel won 1st place.  Lisa Rose took 2nd in her age division with, "He Taught Me To Yodel".  Daniel and Theresa were asked to come back the following week and perform before an audience of 5,000 at a big name concert. They did a great job!

Also in August, 2003, "O God of Loveliness" produced by David Phillips, was released.
This album features "Seraphim", the angelic voices of Christa, Lisa and Theresa Hanson.

In September, 2003, Heartbeat Records flew "Seraphim" and family escorts to Birmingham , AL where they did a half hour show for "Backstage", broadcast on EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network).

The following month, by invitation of UCMVA (United Catholic Music and Video Association), "Seraphim" sang the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria at the prestigious "Unity Awards" in Ohio .

In November, 2003, The Hanson Family Singers released, "Treasures of Christmas"
~ a beautiful collection of traditional Christmas favorites ~. It was available in about twenty local outlets and sold over 600 copies the first year. It's now available in many stores nationwide.

A NEW "Seraphim" album "God is Our Friend", was released in August, 2004. This cd is a little more upbeat and features Daniel on three of the songs. It's a great album!

August, 2004 found the four youngest back at the Lane County fair talent show where each of them did solos. Christa (then 19) placed 3 rd in the adult division with a gospel song called, "No More Night." What an accomplishment! Theresa (then 12) won "Grand Supreme Winner" with a cute yodeling song called, "Ricochet Yodel." She went on to take 2nd at the state competition.

Yes, the children do play, or play at, about ten different instruments including piano, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, drums, violin, accordion, trombone and French horn.

It gets rather interesting sometimes when you walk into their house and hear a smattering of three or more instruments or vocals all going at the same time on that many different songs.

Leslie and the kids all enjoy tap dancing and the youngest four have recently been in shows as well as performing numbers at their concerts.

The family continues to have between twenty and forty singing engagements for the Christmas season but also sings year round for many other occasions.

The latest project is another music cd, "A Song in My Heart", which has yodeling, patriotic, gospel, barbershop songs and more. It's a fun collection of favorites including an original by Wayne called, "Please Daddy Please". It is currently available.
